Vintage Elvis Slippers

They take their name from two of the greatest 18th century British sporting artists, George Stubbs and John Wootton and exemplify the rich transatlantic exchange between American and British culture. Description: Vintage velvet slippers from Stubbs & Wootton. Grey velvet upper embellished with Elvis print on each rounded toe. Ribbed grey trim. 2cm wooden heel and leather sole. Made in Spain. Marked size 9. Fair condition, slight fading on the velvet and signs of wear on the soles. And these are not just any pair of velvet slippers! Circa 1995, they are identical to a pair owned by Deborah The Duchess of Devonshire. Described as the coolest of the Mitford sisters, and fashion royalty, she had a passion for all things Elvis. Her slippers were included in the exhibition” House Style: Five Centuries of Fashion at Chatsworth” curated in 2017 by Hamish Bowles.
